By default, Outlook displays folders in the order they were created. However, you can customize or alphabetize the folder order to fit your workflow.
This guide explains how to sort folders A to Z or use a custom folder order in the New Outlook interface.
๐งญ Steps to Sort Folders
- Open Outlook (New Version)
Ensure you are using the New Outlook interface. You can toggle this at the top-right corner if you see the option โTry the New Outlook.โ - Go to the View Tab
- Click on the View tab in the ribbon at the top of Outlook.

- Click on the View tab in the ribbon at the top of Outlook.
- Open the Folder Pane Settings
- Under the View tab, locate the Folder Pane section.
- Click the Folder Pane button to open its menu.
- Select Sort Folders
- In the dropdown, hover over Sort folders.
Youโll see two options:- โ Order folders A to Z โ Sorts all folders alphabetically.
- โ Custom folder order โ Lets you manually drag and reorder folders.
- In the dropdown, hover over Sort folders.
- Choose Your Preferred Option
- Select Order folders A to Z if you want Outlook to automatically alphabetize all your folders.
- Select Custom folder order if you prefer to manually arrange folders in a specific order.

If youโve rearranged folders manually and want to return to alphabetical order:
- Go back to View โ Folder Pane โ Sort folders โ Order folders A to Z.
- Outlook will immediately re-sort all folders.

- Confirm you are using the New Outlook interface.
